Our Sandmännchen

In 1959 the first showing of Sandmännchen and his friends was broadcasted on east german television making the dream sand shaker a star. With his unusual means of motion, Sandmännchen travels the world and prepares the children for his humorous and thought-provoking stories to help them relax at the end of their day.

Since 1992 the programme has been a co-production of ARD, rbb and MDR. A combination of puppetry, real film and digital trickery which is now being produced using state-of-the-art technology.

Sandmännchens matter of concern as professional sleepbringer for children is to provide them with good and happy thoughts to take them through the night has not changed in its 49 years of broadcast.

The Sandmännchen program is shown daily at 1850 on Kinderkanal (childrens television) on ARD, ZDF, rbb and MDR.
