Saalfeld is the birthplace of Rotstern.
Since December 2005 the production of high quality handmade chocolates and chocolate candies was re-started for Rotstern.
Some of our most popular products are from our range of delicious chocolate candies made from the finest nougat and marzipan. But also chocolate bars with a variety of exciting flavours such as plain chocolate with red peppers or salt, piri piri with orange are only some of a large range to delight you.
In a national test in the spring of 2007 we were awarded second place for our plain chocolate – organized by the magazine Genießer Magazin.
The test criterion
1) The optic shows if the surface
area of the chocolate is mat or shiny and
if the homogeneity is in order, for example
that no stains or white veils have developed.
2) Texture and bite give information
about the melting on the tongue:
Is the chocolate soft, creamy or sticky?
3) The smell reveals the character
of the chocolate. The aroma ranges from
intensive, tangy, spicy to incessant.
4) The taste test came at the end.
How the taste unfolds, the intensity and
sustainability of the chocolate are all
important factors. Is the connection between
sweetness and acid of cocoa correct?
